What Intel chip should I grab for a budget home office build? Im super stoked to finally get this desk setup finished by the end of the month! My budget for the CPU is strictly around 150 bucks. I was looking at the i3-12100 because a couple of sites said its great for basic tasks, but then I read some threads saying the i5-12400 is way better long-term. Im just mostly doing spreadsheets, heavy browser multitasking for my remote gig, and maybe some light photo editing. Im honestly kinda confused if the extra cost for the i5 is actually worth it for just office work... do I really need those extra cores?

Honestly, grab the Intel Core i5-12400 6-Core 4.4GHz. For spreadsheets and a dozen browser tabs, those extra performance cores are a massive help. The i3 might feel sluggish sooner than you think. Just make sure you pair it with a decent motherboard so you dont bottleneck the chip. Its worth the extra few bucks for peace of mind and better multitasking down the road.

Actually, you might be overshooting! Are you gonna run local server tasks or VMs? Plus, how many tabs are we talking? I prefer leaning on efficiency for office setups instead.

> do I really need those extra cores? Honestly, save the cash for more RAM! The Intel Core i3-12100 3.3GHz 4-Core is an absolute beast for office work. It stays cool and handles multitasking like a total champ!
