Finally upgrading my rig to handle 4K drone footage for my YouTube channel! Budget is around 500 bucks for the chip. Ive been looking at the i7-14700K and the i9-13900K, but honestly not sure if the extra cores are worth the price hike. Which one would you pick for Premiere Pro?

Honestly, at that price point, the Intel Core i7-14700K 20-Core 5.6GHz is the way to go. It hits a sweet spot with its architecture and handles 4K timelines in Premiere Pro without breaking a sweat. The i9-13900K is technically beefier, but you're usually just paying for heat and power consumption that you might not actually see in your render times.

  • Stick to the i7-14700K to save some cash for fast NVMe storage.
  • Make sure your cooling setup can handle the thermal load because these things get toasty. Quick tip: prioritize your RAM speed and capacity over pushing for that i9. Premiere really loves having extra headroom for preview files. If you go with the i7, just make sure youve got a solid cooler on there, like maybe a decent 360mm AIO.

Honestly, grab the Intel Core i7-14700K 20-Core 5.6GHz. I swapped to it recently for my 4K workflow and it is an absolute beast! Premiere just flies now. My biggest tip? Spend the extra cash you saved on a solid Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black Premium CPU Cooler. Don't cheap out on the airflow! Keeping those temps down makes a massive difference in rendering stability and keeps everything snappy.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I honestly had a rough time with high-end chips lately. My last workstation basically turned into a space heater and throttled constantly during long exports. It was pretty disappointing given how much I spent.

  • Prioritize cooling solutions first
  • Look for stability over raw clock speeds
  • Consider going with Intel for better Premiere compatibility Just stick to any solid mid-range Intel processor and put the leftover cash toward a better cooler.

Building on the earlier suggestion, honestly I wouldnt go crazy with the budget. I had issues with my own build running way too hot, and it just wasnt as good as expected for the price. You could save some cash and grab the Intel Core i5-14600K 14-Core 5.3GHz instead.

  • it handles 4K editing just fine
  • way easier to cool
  • spend the savings on more RAM Ngl the extra cores are mostly overkill unless you are doing heavy color grading too.
