im trying to put together a basic office desktop for my new remote job and my current laptop is literally falling apart like the hinge is snapped so i need to get this built by next friday. i’m looking at amd because my friend said they have better value right now for multitasking but im honestly super stressed about picking the right part because i dont want to overspend. my budget for the cpu is strictly under $150 and im buying everything from a local micro center here in ohio. i’m mainly doing heavy spreadsheet work and like fifty chrome tabs at once while on zoom calls.
im stuck between these three:
the 5600g seems like the safest bet since it has built in graphics and i wouldnt have to buy a separate video card which saves me money elsewhere but i heard the 5500 is cheaper if i can find a super cheap used gpu. but then i worry a used gpu will just die on me. is the performance jump from the 4600g to the 5600g actually noticeable for just office stuff? i dont want it to lag when i have my screen shared in meetings. do you think the 5600g is the best bang for my buck or should i go even cheaper to save for more ram? just really dont want to mess this up and end up with a slow machine...
Like someone mentioned, the 5600G is a beast, but the AMD Ryzen 5 4600G 6-Core 12-Thread Processor works well enough if you want to save cash. I'm happy with mine. My advice? Grab G.Skill Ripjaws V 32GB DDR4-3200 RAM with the extra money. Those 50 tabs will hog memory way before the CPU struggles. Youll be much more satisfied with the extra headroom for multitasking.
In my experience, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G 6-Core 12-Thread Processor is your best bet. It handles multitasking and Zoom easily without the need for an expensive dedicated graphics card.
