So I have been trying to get into editing videos for my youtube channel and honestly im completely lost. My old laptop just freezes up whenever I try to put more than two clips together and it is driving me totally insane. I mostly film in 4k with my mirrorless camera and I think that is why it is struggling so hard but I really dont know much about the tech side of things. I keep seeing people talk about AMD processors and how they are better than intel or something but honestly all these numbers like 7900x and 7950x just look like gibberish to me. I have about 600 bucks to spend on the cpu and motherboard part since I already have a case and power supply from a friend who upgraded his rig. I really just want to be able to render my 4k videos without waiting like three hours every time I export a project because right now its taking forever. Im based in Chicago so I can run to microcenter if I need to grab something in person but I have no clue what I should actually be looking for on the shelf. Is there a specific model that is the gold standard for editing? Like, is getting the most expensive one actually worth it for a beginner like me, or am I just going to be paying for features I dont even know how to use yet? Im just so confused with all the different series and letters at the end of the names. If someone could just point me to a solid choice that wont crash my system while im trying to use premiere pro that would be a lifesaver. Sorry if this is a super basic question but I really dont want to waste my money on the wrong thing...
Honestly, grab a AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12-Core 4.7GHz at Microcenter. Its super reliable for 4k work and wont break the bank like the top-tier chips. Definitely a safe bet.
