Building on the earlier suggestion, that $359 price point for a July release puts the 5900XT in a weird spot. Since its actually a 16-core part, you really need to be careful about what youre actually paying for vs the older flagships.

  • AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT 16-Core 3.3GHz: Pros include the 16 cores for multitasking, but the lower base clock compared to the 5950X is a bit of a letdown.
  • AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-Core 3.4GHz: I would suggest hunting for a discounted 5950X. Its essentially the same chip but usually hits higher boosts.
  • AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 8-Core 3.4GHz: For pure gaming, dont even look at the 5900XT. This is still the better buy for pure frame rates. Make sure your motherboard has a BIOS update ready before you buy... honestly, I have seen too many people get stuck with no-post because they forgot to flash the firmware for these XT refreshes. Check your VRM cooling too.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I would suggest you be really careful with that $359 price point. It sounds okay for 16 cores on paper, but I'm kinda wondering if it's actually the smartest move for your wallet right now. Before you jump on it, what are you actually planning to do with this build? Are you doing heavy workstation stuff like rendering, or is this mostly just for gaming and hanging out? If you are mostly gaming, you might want to consider looking at the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D 8-Core 3.0GHz instead. You can usually find it on sale for way less, and it's a beast for games. I just worry about people overspending on cores they wont ever use lol. Also, make sure to check if your current motherboard and cooler can actually handle a 16-core chip... those things get pretty toasty and you dont want to find out the hard way that you need a $100 cooling upgrade on top of the CPU price.

Ryzen 9 5900XT will retail at $359, while the 5800XT will cost $249. Both processors are said to launch in July.
