I'm currently in the market for a new CPU and I'm considering the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. However, I've heard rumors about an upcoming Ryzen 7 9800X3D. I primarily use my PC for gaming and some content creation.

Should I go ahead and purchase the 7800X3D, or would it be worth waiting for the potential performance gains of the 9800X3D? I'm concerned about the possible price difference and the length of time I might need to wait for the 9800X3D to become available.

9800X3D is expected in early 2025, so why not get 7800X3D ?

You'd better wait 11800X3D. 🤐

In my experience, you just gotta pull the trigger when the tech is already this good. Ive been building rigs for over twenty years and the wait-and-see game usually ends in frustration when parts go out of stock. Just grab the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D now. If you're worried about heat tho, dont skimp on the cooling. I actually just swapped an old loop for a Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE and its quieter than most liquid setups Ive used. I spent way too much time last weekend just re-routing cables in my basement because I got obsessed with airflow... realized I still have a box of old IDE cables and 80mm fans for some reason. I really need to toss that junk. Anyway, buy the chip and have fun.

Currently Amazon US has a very hot deal on 7800X3D, why not get it.

It really depends on your current setup and needs. The 7800X3D is already a beast for gaming, thanks to its 3D V-Cache. If you need a high-performance CPU now, it's a great choice. However, if you can wait and don't mind potentially paying a premium for the latest tech, the 9800X3D (when it comes out) will likely offer some improvements. Just keep in mind that waiting for the "next big thing" can be never-ending in tech.

Re: "In my experience, you just gotta pull the..." - ngl I am stuck in this exact same loop of indecision right now and it is genuinely stressing me out. I have been staring at the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core 16-Thread Processor in my cart for three days straight without hitting buy. The technical side of me is really worried about the cache implementation on the new series. You might want to consider that while the 7800X3D is the current king, the Zen 5 architecture might handle the thermal density of the V-cache much better than the current gen. If they have moved the cache or improved the bonding process, we could see way higher clock speeds without the chip constantly throttling itself to stay cool. I am just being cautious because early adoption is always such a gamble... remember the SOC voltage scares when AM5 first launched? Be careful and make sure to check if your board, like the ASUS ROG Strix B650-A Gaming WiFi, has a rock-solid BIOS update ready before even thinking about the 9000 series. I am basically holding off because I dont want to buy the "old" tech and regret it two months later, but the wait is killing me. Its nice to know I am not the only one paralyzed by the rumors tho.

Don't hesitate, make your purchase and dive into gaming. In the world of PCs, technological advancements are constant. There's always a newer, more powerful component on the horizon. This perpetual evolution is part of the PC experience. Embrace the current offerings, knowing that future upgrades will be available when you're ready. For now, focus on enjoying your gaming adventures.

I'm in the waiting camp. The 7800X3D is great, but if you've waited this long, why not wait a bit longer?

@king Agree, my old 5800X3D is still great for most games, so I'm also waiting for 9800X3D.
