Which portable laptop stand is best for working while traveling?

I've been working remote for like five years now so I'm totally used to the whole office in a backpack thing. Usually I swear by my old Roost stand because the ergonomics are non-negotiable for me—I've got this nagging neck issue if I don't have the screen at eye level. But here's the thing, I'm heading to Tokyo in three weeks and I'm strictly doing carry-on only this time. My current stand is great but it's kinda clunky and takes up way too much room in my Peak Design bag when I've already got my camera gear and my M2 MacBook Pro packed in there.

Plus I've seen those tiny cafe tables in Japan and I'm lowkey panicking that my current tripod-style base is gonna be too wide and just slide right off the edge. I need something that's super slim but still actually lifts the laptop high enough so I'm not hunching over for eight hours a day.

I've been looking at a few options but I'm torn:

  • Moft invisible adhesive stand
  • Twelve South Curve Flex (looks heavy though)
  • Those tiny Besign aluminum ones

I've got a budget of about $60 and I really need to get this sorted before my flight. What’s the absolute best low-profile stand that actually provides decent elevation without being a total brick in my bag?

> My current stand is great but it's kinda clunky To add to the point above: I've been looking at the data and I'm super satisfied with the Nexstand K2 Foldable Laptop Stand 8 Height Settings. It's only 240g and offers 8 height levels for your neck issues. If you need something lower profile for those small Tokyo tables, the Rain Design mBar Pro+ Foldable Laptop Stand Aluminum is just 130g. Both are under $60 and fit into a carry-on easily.

Honestly im super satisfied with the Moft Adhesive Laptop Stand 3mm Ultra-thin lately.

  • Only 3mm thick.
  • Two angles (15/25 degrees).
  • Basically zero footprint. Perfect for those tiny Tokyo tables.

Like someone mentioned, the Moft is killer for portability, but I've found it doesn't quite hit that sweet spot for height if you're dealing with neck pain. Had a moment to think about this and I'm honestly super satisfied with the Besign LS10 Aluminum Foldable Laptop Stand lately. It folds down into a tiny narrow stick that slides right into the pen slots of my bag.

  • Table space: Unlike the tripod style Roost, this has two separate support legs. You can narrow the width so it fits on those tiny 12-inch cafe tables without hanging over the edge.
  • Adjustability: It has 6 or 7 height settings. I can get my Apple MacBook Pro 14 M2 Chip screen almost at eye level, which is a lifesaver.
  • Price: Usually around $20-25, so way under your $60 limit. I also checked out the Nulaxy C3 Foldable Laptop Stand Aluminum recently. It's built like a tank and very stable, though it's slightly chunkier when folded compared to the Besign. If you're doing carry-on only, every centimeter counts in your Peak Design Travel Backpack 45L. Both are solid, but for Tokyo's cramped spaces, the LS10 is probably your best bet since it's basically weightless. I've used mine in several tiny Starbucks over there and never had it slip. The Twelve South Curve Flex Portable Laptop Stand you mentioned is beautiful but honestly way too heavy for a one-bag setup... its basically a brick in your bag.
