im trying to get holiday shopping organized early because november is always a nightmare. i have a huge amazon wishlist for the kids but half the stuff is cheaper at target or walmart and i want one place that updates everything. i looked at giftster but it keeps glitching on my private lists and elfster feels like its just for secret santas and i dont need all that extra fluff.

what im needing:

  • automatic syncing so i dont manual update everything
  • works on mobile since im always on my phone
  • simple enough for my 70 year old mother in law to navigate
  • free or very cheap

how do you guys actually link these things together so i dont end up buying doubles...

coming back to this, @Reply #1 - good point! tbh be cautious with apps promising perfect syncing because they often fail. GiftHero is a solid free alternative i used last year. the process is fairly methodical:

  • install the browser button
  • import the amazon link
  • manually check for duplicates just be careful with the mobile sync because it lags. i would suggest a quick refresh before heading out so you dont buy doubles.

Honestly, getting true auto-sync between Amazon and Walmart is basically impossible because they lock down their APIs. I tried building a custom scraper last year and it was a total disaster... they change code too often. I finally just moved everyone over to Share Product Wishlist instead.

  • handles links from any store
  • clean UI for older family members
  • prevents duplicate purchases It is way better than those glitchy alternatives.

Like someone mentioned, these APIs are a total nightmare for developers! I am totally obsessed with technical specs and the reason these apps fail is usually because retailers rotate their div IDs and CSS classes weekly to stop bot traffic. It is honestly amazing how much work goes into blocking simple scrapers tho. If you are looking at free tools, definitely watch out for these red flags:

  • Never give an app your actual Amazon or Walmart password. Some sync tools use credential stuffing which is a massive security risk.
  • Check the update frequency. If the latency is more than a few minutes, you will definitely get duplicate gifts.
  • Look for apps that use client-side parsing. It is way more reliable for price tracking across different domains. Getting this organized now is such a fantastic idea! Love the energy of planning ahead. I tried a few methods, but Easy Cart Share is the most straightforward one I've found so far for Walmart.
