Is there any way to share a Walmart cart with my roommate? I keep seeing old reddit threads saying you can just hit a share button but honestly I cant find any option like that on the app or the desktop site. Maybe they removed it in an update? I tried creating a list instead but it doesnt let them add items directly to my checkout flow which is super annoying. We are trying to split groceries for the month since we are both on a tight budget and living in a tiny apartment in Chicago. Does anyone know if this feature is actually gone or am I just blind? Really need to figure this out before our next big grocery run this weekend...

Honestly, the shareable cart feature is totally gone. Walmart stripped it out completely, which is super frustrating for anyone trying to coordinate household shopping! Since the List feature is basically just a glorified notepad, I have been using a dedicated shared Google Keep note for my roommates. We just drop links directly from the Walmart site into that note. It makes the checkout process so much faster because you can just click through everything at once. It is a bit manual, but it works perfectly every single time! If you really want a seamless way to split costs, just one of you handles the order and the other sends their half over via Venmo or CashApp. It is the most reliable way to manage a tight budget without the app crashing or losing your items.

Yeah, so the short answer is no, they definitely scrapped that feature a while back. It was super convenient when it worked, but Walmart pretty much killed it to push their List feature instead. I used to rely on it for my own roommate situations, but now the app just treats the cart as a private user session. Since you are trying to coordinate for that Chicago grocery run, here is how most people get around it nowadays:

  • Create a shared List: I know you mentioned it doesnt hit the checkout flow, but if you both add stuff to a specific list, you can just dump everything into the cart right before hitting pay.
  • Login sharing: Honestly, a lot of people just share one account login for the household. Just keep in mind that Walmart will flag you if you are logged in from two different locations at once sometimes.
  • Use a separate app: My roommate and I switched to a shared note app to keep track of totals and then one person just handles the actual transaction while the other venmos them. It is definitely annoying that they made it harder, especially if you are watching your budget closely. If you really want to keep it simple, just designate one person to manage the order and have the other person send their list over. Good luck with the apartment hunt, Chicago grocery prices can be brutal!
