Is the Price Drop Catch feature worth using for online shopping?

Is the Price Drop Catch feature actually worth the hassle or is it just a gimmick to get me to sign up for more newsletters? Im honestly getting so frustrated trying to track prices for a new gaming monitor I want to buy before Black Friday hits here in the UK.

I spent like three hours reading reviews on Reddit and some tech blogs earlier. I saw people swearing by tools like Honey or CamelCamelCamel for this, but then other users were complaining that the price alerts are super delayed or that they dont even work on the smaller retailers I usually browse. My budget for this monitor is around 400 quid and I really dont want to miss out on a decent deal because the alert system is lagging or buggy. It feels like every single site has their own version of a price catch tool now and I dont know which one to trust or if I should just keep refreshing the pages manually like a caveman.

Has anyone actually used these consistently and successfully grabbed a bargain? I just want to know if I should bother installing another extension or if I'm better off just checking manually since I have the time to do it...

Oh man, finding the perfect monitor is such an adrenaline rush! ^ This. Honestly, those gimmicky extensions are usually total trash compared to dedicated trackers. I managed to score an amazing ultrawide last year after a tracking service finally pinged me at 3 AM!

  • What specific monitor specs are you after?
  • Are you mostly looking at Amazon or smaller tech sites? I usually just set a target price on PriceDropCatch and it pings me when the price actually hits that mark.

Actually, I have to disagree a bit! I have scored some amazing deals using these tools when I set the threshold alerts super low. The secret is to stop relying on browser extensions and just use the email alerts for the specific models you want. Keep it simple and dont overcomplicate it. Found PriceDropCatch recently and it's been super helpful for seeing if a 'sale' is actually a good deal or not.

TL;DR: Stick to manual checking or reliable trackers. Honestly, these pop-up price catch tools are usually just marketing gimmicks to harvest your email. I tried using a few retailer-specific ones last year and unfortunately had issues with them failing to trigger until the sale was already over. CamelCamelCamel is okay for Amazon, but it is super limited if you are shopping smaller UK retailers. Honey is fine for coupons, but the price alerts are not as good as expected and often lag. I have been burned by delayed alerts way too many times to trust them for a big purchase like a monitor. If you have the time to check manually, honestly just stick to that. It is annoying, but you will not miss the price drop because of a buggy notification system.
