honestly im so done with these cheap glass protectors that keep shattering if i so much as look at them wrong. I just bought a new iPad Pro 12.9 for my freelance illustration work and the glare is driving me crazy but every matte protector i try makes the screen look all grainy and weird like static. Its so frustrating because i just want to draw without seeing my own reflection or dealing with a fuzzy screen.

Plus I spent like twenty minutes trying to get the bubbles out of the last one and it still looks like a total mess near the edges. Im currently in Seattle and the lighting in my studio is just awful for reflections so i really need something that actually works. I have about 40 bucks to spend and i need to get this sorted before i head out for a gallery show next Thursday so timeline is tight. I keep hearing about Paperlike but then some people say it wears down the pencil nibs way too fast and honestly i cant afford to keep buying new tips every month. Does anyone have a recommendation for a screen protector that actually stays on, doesnt ruin the display quality, and maybe feels okay for drawing? Like what is actually the best one out there regardless of the model...

Stumbled on this today. I went through three different brands before finding a decent middle ground. The Mothca Matte Glass Screen Protector iPad Pro 12.9 is etched glass, so it doesnt get that rainbow static look like plastic films. Its a solid, reliable choice for drawing. Quick tip: use scotch tape to dab away tiny dust specks right before you drop the glass down.

Honestly, I went through a phase where I spent way too much on premium matte films and they were all such a letdown. I had issues with the graininess on my 12.9 screen which basically ruined the retina resolution. Unfortunately, even the expensive ones I tried had a weird prism effect that made my digital paintings look noisy. I eventually gave up on the pro brands and found that going budget actually saved my sanity and my wallet.

  • The ESR Paper-Feel Screen Protector for iPad Pro 12.9 2-Pack is my current go-to. Its usually under 15 bucks, which is a steal.
  • It maintains better color accuracy than grainier alternatives, even if the light transmittance isnt 100%.
  • Grab a pack of HHK Apple Pencil Replacement Nibs 4-Pack to save money since any texture will wear down tips. I wasted so much cash before realizing the cheap sets are better for daily freelance grinds. The installation kit helps with bubbles too.

To add to the point above: in my experience, the permanent matte glass stuff is a bit of a trap for illustrators because it can mess with the pencil precision. Honestly ive tried many over the years and found that the graininess is basically unavoidable with fixed films. I totally get being worried about bubbles tho... theyre the absolute worst. Since youre on a tight deadline, check out the ESR Magnetic Paper-Feel Screen Protector for iPad Pro 12.9. It snaps on with magnets so there is zero chance of bubbles or alignment issues. Best part is you can just take it off when you are done drawing to get that crystal clear screen back. It keeps your display looking sharp and doesnt eat through nibs as fast as the sandpaper-style ones. Tbh it is much safer for a professional workflow than committing to a permanent layer that might look like static forever... plus it fits your budget perfectly.
