Ive been using iPads for my freelance graphic design work since the original Pro came out, always keeping them in those slim leather folios because they looked professional. Well, my luck finally ran out yesterday. My current 12.9 inch model slipped right off my desk at the studio and now the corner is all dented and the screen has a spiderweb crack running down the side. Im absolutely gutted because I have a huge client deliverable due in three days and I cant afford to be without a functioning tablet. Im honestly pretty annoyed at myself for being so vain about the look of the case over actual protection. So I was thinking, I need something rugged but not totally bulky because I still take this thing to meetings in downtown Chicago, and my budget is around 80 bucks. Ive looked at the OtterBox Defenders but they look like massive bricks and I heard the rubber starts stretching after a few months. My logic was maybe something modular or military spec but slimmer? Has anyone found a case that actually saves the device during a drop but doesnt turn it into a tank... really stressed about this one.
Man, that really sucks about your iPad. Seriously, ditch the folio life before another disaster happens! I switched to the Spigen Tough Armor Pro and it is honestly a game changer. It feels so secure without being a total brick.
Man, that really sucks about your iPad. Been there, done that. I used to rock those sleek leather cases too until I watched my pro model do a slow-mo tumble onto concrete. Honestly, those leather folios offer zero drop protection, just scratch resistance. If you want something that actually saves your hardware without making it look like a construction site tool, check out the UAG Metropolis Series iPad Pro 12.9-inch. I have used their stuff for years and it manages to keep the profile pretty slim while still being military-spec drop tested. The grip is solid and it has held up way better than the rubber on those old school brick cases that stretch out. It doesn't look like a tank, so you can definitely still take it to meetings without looking out of place. It saved my bacon more than once.
