I'm looking to upgrade my computer by transferring my operating system and files from my old hard drive to a new SSD. Can anyone guide me through the process? What tools do I need, and are there any important steps I should follow to ensure everything goes smoothly? Any tips on what to do with my old hard drive afterward would also be appreciated!

Here's a concise guide to transfer your data from HDD to SSD:

  1. Back up all important data first
  2. Choose your transfer method:
    • Clone the drive (recommended): Use software like Macrium Reflect Free or Clonezilla
    • Fresh installation: Install OS on new SSD, then manually transfer data

For a basic clone to SSD:

  1. Connect both drives to your PC
  2. Download free Macrium Reflect or Clonezilla
  3. Clone old drive to new SSD
  4. Set SSD as boot drive in BIOS
Done! Takes about 30-60 mins depending on data size.
