I'm looking to move my Windows 11 operating system to a new SSD. I have a 256GB drive that is almost full, and I just purchased a 1TB SSD. What are the best methods to transfer my OS? Should I clone the drive or perform a fresh installation? Are there any specific tools or steps I need to follow to ensure a smooth transition? Additionally, will moving the OS affect my digital license? TIA.

Using Cloning Software:

  1. Download and install a disk cloning tool (like Macrium Reflect Free or EaseUS Todo Backup)
  2. Connect your new drive
  3. Launch the cloning software
  4. Select your current Windows drive as source
  5. Select new drive as destination
  6. Start the cloning process
  7. Change boot order in BIOS to boot from new drive
  8. Verify Windows boots properly from new drive
