Hey everyone! I'm currently putting together a new mid-range gaming build, likely centered around a Ryzen 5 7600X and an RTX 4070. I've pretty much settled on going with a 750W power supply to give myself a little headroom for future upgrades, but man, the market is absolutely flooded with options right now. It’s honestly a bit overwhelming trying to figure out which units are actually reliable and which ones are just hype.

I’m really looking for something that is 80+ Gold rated for efficiency, and fully modular cables are a must for me because I hate dealing with cable clutter in the back of the case. I’ve been looking at some models from Corsair and Seasonic, but I’ve heard mixed things about coil whine on certain newer units. Reliability is my top priority—I definitely don't want to risk my other components with a lower-tier unit. Noise is also a big factor since my PC sits right on my desk, so a quiet fan or a zero-RPM mode would be a huge plus.

Does anyone have a 'go-to' 750W PSU they’d recommend for a build like this? I’m trying to keep the price around $110-$130 if possible. What are you guys using in your mid-range setups lately?

Jumping in here! I totally feel u on the PSU anxiety... it's like the most important part to get right so you dont blow up your shiny new 4070 lol. Since you're prioritizing safety and noise, you've gotta be careful with the budget units. Check out the PSU Tier List on Cultists Network. It's honestly the best resource for this. You basically want anything in 'Tier A'. It's super thorough and ranks units based on actual component quality and protection features, which is exactly what you need for peace of mind. For your build, I'd highkey recommend the Corsair RM750x (2021) 750 Watt 80 Plus Gold Fully Modular PSU. I've used it in three builds now and it's fantastic. It has that zero-RPM mode you want, and unlike the cheaper RMe series, it uses better Japanese capacitors so it's reallyyy quiet and reliable. Usually hits right around $120. Another great shout is the Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 750W 80+ Gold ATX 3.0 Fully Modular. Since ur getting a 4070, this is amazing cuz it has a native 12VHPWR cable—so no ugly adapters needed!! It’s super efficient and fits your $110-$130 range perfectly. TL;DR: Use the Cultists PSU Tier List to verify safety rankings. I'd grab the Corsair RM750x (2021) 750 Watt 80 Plus Gold Fully Modular PSU for maximum silence or the Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 750W 80+ Gold ATX 3.0 Fully Modular for the best cable compatibility with your 40-series card. gl! 👍

I just went through this exact same stress last month! I was super worried about getting a unit that would buzz or whine right next to my head on the desk. I ended up picking up the EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G6 80 Plus Gold and honestly, it has been absolutely amazing so far!

  • The size is super compact which helped a ton with managing that cable clutter you mentioned.
  • Not sure but I think this one is based on a really solid Seasonic platform? Someone told me that is why the build quality feels so premium.
  • I love how the Eco mode keeps the fan totally off during light tasks, it is basically silent until I start gaming.
  • IIRC, the ripple suppression is supposed to be top-notch on these units, though I dont actually have the gear to test that myself lol. I am not totally sure if the price is still sitting in that $110 range right now, but it was when I grabbed mine. It definitely feels like a tank and hasnt given me any issues with my 40-series card!
