Considering the RTX 5090's high power consumption, is a 1000W PSU the minimum requirement? How do transient spikes and future upgrades factor into PSU selection for a stable system with a Ryzen 9950X3D or similar CPU? What resources, besides Tom's Hardware, aid this crucial decision?

NZXT C1200 Gold ATX 3.1 is recommended.

It is like the gold standard for DIY enthusiasts to make sure you are not buying a lemon. Quick tips for the install:

  • Get a native ATX 3.1 power supply to avoid using those bulky 12VHPWR adapters.
  • Make sure your case has enough clearance for the thicker cables that come with these high-wattage units. I am not a pro or anything, but I have read that the 5090 spikes could be pretty wild. Honestly, I would feel way safer with a Seasonic Vertex GX-1200 or something similar that is rated for those massive transients. Doing it yourself is easy enough as long as you dont rush the cable management and double check every connection.
