Need to figure this out fast cause my parts are literally arriving tomorrow afternoon. Im building a 7700X rig with an RTX 4070 for some 1440p gaming and heavy video editing. Budget is around 120 bucks max. I read on reddit that 750W is plenty, but tomshardware said 850W if you want headroom for future gpu upgrades so my logic was just go 850W to be safe. But then I saw people complaining about fan noise on the RM850x and now im totally second guessing everything. Do I actually need the extra wattage or should I just grab a solid 750W and call it a day?

Honestly 750W is plenty for a 7700X and 4070 combo, but since your budget is 120 bucks you can easily find a good 850W unit anyway. Dont stress too much about the RM850x fan noise stuff, most power supplies wont even spin their fans under normal gaming loads anyway. If you want peace of mind and an easy install, just grab the Corsair RM850e 850W ATX 3.0 or a Seasonic Focus GX 750W 80+ Gold. Both fit right in your price range. The 12VHPWR cable that comes with modern ATX 3.0 units makes wiring the 4070 way cleaner too. Just pick whichever one is currently on sale and stop overthinking it, youll be fine.
