so I finally pulled the trigger on a 7800X3D from the micro center bundle deal this morning and now I am literally staring at my case and ram just waiting for a motherboard. i need to get this thing built by friday because i have a long weekend off and just want to game but im getting choice paralysis looking at all these b650 options. i have about $180 maybe $200 max to spend on the board because i went over budget on the gpu and my wife is gonna kill me if i spend another cent over the limit.

i spent like four hours reading reddit and watching hardware unboxed videos yesterday and i feel even more confused than when i started. everyone says the msi mag b650 tomahawk wifi is the gold standard for value but then i see these massive threads about msi having terrible boot times where it takes like 45 seconds or even a full minute just to see the bios screen. i dont want to deal with that every single morning it sounds super annoying. then i looked at the gigabyte b650 aorus elite ax because the vrms look solid and the layout is clean but people are saying the coil whine is a total lottery and i really hate high pitched noises when the room is quiet.

im basically looking for something that just works out of the box with the x3d chips without needing a crazy bios update right away if possible though i know how to flash a bios if i really have to. i dont need ten usb ports or fancy rgb lights i just want good power delivery and decent m.2 slots for my game library. i am also seeing some people say the asrock b650 steel legend or the livemixer is the sleeper pick but i havent used an asrock board in like ten years so i am a bit nervous about their bios layout and software stability compared to the big names.

is there a clear winner right now for someone who just wants stability and fast boots for under 200 bucks or am i overthinking the whole boot time thing? what are you guys actually running with your 7800x3d that didnt break the bank or cause constant headaches? i gotta order this in the next few hours to get it here in time...

Coming back to this after seeing the other replies. I actually disagree with spending more on the Steel Legend if you are on a strict budget. If you want safety and to keep the wife happy, the ASRock B650 Pro RS WiFi is the way to go. I have been using one for months and it works well without any of the weird coil whine or drama. Here is a quick look at the two I trust for a stable build:

  • ASRock B650 Pro RS WiFi
  • Super stable and much cheaper. It has three m.2 slots which is perfect for a big game library.
  • ASUS TUF Gaming B650-PLUS WIFI
  • A bit more rugged and has better rear IO if you have a lot of peripherals. The boot time issue is really overblown imo. Just toggle Memory Context Restore in the bios and it will fly. Honestly, save your money and grab the Pro RS... it just works.

Been thinking about your build all afternoon and you gotta look at ASRock! They are absolutely crushing it right now and the bios is actually super clean. I totally love the ASRock B650 Steel Legend WiFi ATX because it hits that sweet spot for price!

  • boots way faster than msi
  • vrms stay super cool
  • pcie 5.0 for future proofing Check out the hardware unboxed spreadsheet for the latest vrm temps... its a total sleeper hit!

> i dont want to deal with that every single morning it sounds super annoying. Boot times vary a lot with bios versions... honestly tho, do you actually need onboard wifi or are you strictly using ethernet for your setup?
