Hey all! Building a new rig with the ROG Strix X870E-E gaming wifi board. What's the absolute best RAM to pair with it for gaming? I'm aiming for top performance, budget isn't really an issue. What speed and timings should I be looking at for the best possible gaming experience?

Yep been there done that. Can confirm everything said above is spot on.

Adding my two cents here because I learned this the hard way on my own build. If you want a headache-free setup, you definitely need to watch out for a few common traps with these AM5 boards. Here is what I would suggest avoiding:

  • Running four dimms. Seriously, do not buy a 4-stick kit unless you want to spend days clearing CMOS and running memtest at downgraded speeds.
  • Buying Intel XMP kits. Make sure you get modules specifically verified for AMD EXPO or you might have a rough time getting the timings to train.
  • Going over 1.3v SOC in bios. Some bios versions push this way too high automatically when you enable profiles, which can degrade the memory controller. Keep it to a solid 2-stick kit and you should be golden, just dont chase those crazy high speeds that the memory controller cant actually handle anyway.

Same here!

Corsair Dominator Platinum, in my experience. Runs great, 6000MHz is sweet spot.

Before you max out RAM speed, double-check the motherboard QVL. I had issues with crazy speeds. G.Skill's decent, but confirm compatibility. Higher speed RAM is not always as good as expected.

Before you max out RAM, remember diminishing returns! G.Skill's 6000MHz CL30 kit is often the sweet spot for price/performance. Be careful of chasing marginal gains that cost a fortune.

Corsair Dominator's pricey, but is it *really* worth it? Research crucial. Check user reviews, 2024 data.

G.Skill's good, but DIY's cheaper. Watch YouTube, save $100+ on pro install. Worth it?

Hey! Crucial RAM's amazing, but in Arizona's heat, consider a kit with robust heat spreaders like G.Skill Trident Z5. Prevents thermal throttling during those long gaming sessions!

Before chasing raw speed, prioritize RAM with a robust heat spreader. G.Skill's Trident Z series is popular, but make sure your case has adequate airflow. Overheating kills performance *and* stability, so be careful!

Forget chasing every last FPS! I've run G.Skill 6000MHz CL30 for 2 years. Rock solid stability trumps marginal gains. Less headache = more game time, trust me!
