I'm building a new gaming rig with an RTX 4080 and AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Currently torn between 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 and 64GB DDR5-5600 CL36. My budget is around $300-400. I mainly play competitive FPS games like Valorant and CS2, but also enjoy open-world RPGs like Cyberpunk 2077. Should I prioritize lower latency or higher capacity? Also considering future-proofing for upcoming games. What's the sweet spot for price-performance?

Best choice is DDR5 6000 CL30. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=DDR5+6000+CL30&------123456890?7649-20

^ This. Also, honestly, i think the obsession with 6000 cl30 is a bit much sometimes. When I was putting my latest build together, I had the same debate and ended up going with a slower 64gb kit because it was on sale. I looked at those flashy premium kits everyone usually suggests, but I went with a more budget-friendly brand instead. I was worried i'd see a big drop in performance, but in real-world usage? I barely noticed. What I did notice was how much better it felt to never have to close my browser or background apps while playing stuff like Cyberpunk. My old 32gb setup used to struggle a bit with memory leaks in certain games, but now everything just stays smooth. I know the benchmarks favor the lower latency, but for a daily driver, I've found that having the extra capacity is way more practical than chasing those tiny timing gains. Just my two cents tho...

16GB is considered the bare minimum in 2025, but we recommend 32GB as the sweet spot now, especially if you tend to keep many tabs open in your web browser and have multiple apps running while you game. The best RAM for gaming overall is the Kingston Fury Beast DDR5 RGB - compatible with all current AMD and Intel CPU systems, it offers speed, value, and RGB, I'd recommend picking a 32GB memory kit that runs at 6000 MT/s with a CAS latency of 30, as such kits will boost your average frame rates by up to 14% compared to 16GB DDR5-4800 configurations.

Wait, ive been following this thread and had a thought. Before you pull the trigger on either kit, are you looking for something that is strictly on your motherboards QVL list, or are you comfortable tweaking the sub-timings yourself? Also, are you planning on doing any high-res video rendering or is this machine solely for your FPS matches? I've been quite satisfied with my current setup lately because I prioritized stability over raw speed. Honestly, it took me forever to decide because I was worried about bios compatibility issues. I actually spent a whole weekend just testing different bios versions to make sure my voltage was consistent even when the system was idling. It was a bit tedious but having a rock-solid system that never crashes is totally worth it imo. My previous build used to blue screen if I even looked at it wrong lol. Anyway...
