I'm building a new gaming rig featuring the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and I'm seeking advice on the best RAM to pair with it. What RAM speed should I aim for? Which brands do you recommend for reliability and performance? I've heard good things about G.Skill and Corsair, but I'm open to other suggestions.

I appreciate any insights or experiences you can share!

TIA.

I guess the sweet spot of 9000X3D is still DDR5 6000 CL30.

Get this: G.Skill DDR5 Trident Z5 Royal NEO DDR5 6000 CL28: https://www.amazon.com/G-SKILL-Trident-CL28-36-36-96-Desktop-Computer/dp/B0DD2LKVMD?------123456890?5422-20

@stopgaming Love this, should be the best option for a 9800x3d.

Besides G.Skill, Corsair also has 6000 CL28 DDR5 RAM. https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-Vengeance-6000MHz-Compatible-Computer/dp/B0DFMPQJLF

Lexar has just released DDR5 6000 CL26, says ideal for 9800X3D.

DDR5 6400 CL32.

DDR5 8000-8200 performs best. However, DDR5 6000 CL30 offers nearly identical real-world performance while saving $80 through cheaper RAM and motherboard costs. DDR5 6400 CL32 works on select chips but needs 3200MHz UCLK.

CL30 6000MHz DDR5 RAM offers the most reliable plug-and-play experience, compatible with all DDR5 CPUs. While DDR5 8000-8200MHz provides higher speeds, it has limited motherboard compatibility and may require manual tuning.

@vene_baam Yes, just get 6000 CL 28 or CL 30.

RAM at 6000 CL30 offers the best balance of stability and performance. While 6000 CL28 exists, its higher price doesn't justify the minimal performance gain. Success with other speeds and timings is unpredictable, as it heavily depends on your specific motherboard quality and CPU's memory controller (silicon lottery). It's safer to stick with proven configurations than chase marginal improvements with unstable settings.

Building on the earlier suggestion about that 6000 sweet spot, I totally agree. In my experience, chasing those super high frequencies on the 9800X3D usually just ends in a lot of wasted time tweaking voltages for very little gain. Over the years I've tried many different manufacturers and honestly, keeping it simple is the way to go for a stable rig.

  • Go with Kingston, you really cant go wrong with their stuff
  • Just get any kit from Crucial if you want something bulletproof
  • Look for that EXPO branding so you dont have to mess with manual subtimings Both those brands are top-tier for DIY builds because their quality control is usually miles ahead of the flashy budget brands. If you run into any weirdness with the memory training on the first boot, dont panic... it sometimes takes a minute or two on these newer AM5 boards. If you need any help when the parts arrive just let me know.

Just go for 6000 CL30 or the new G.Skill CL28. Spend extra money on other things.

Try to get some low CL RAM.

Anyone use DDR5 8000 RAM?

@flake_tom No need for X3D. Just 6000 CL30 is OK.

G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO Royal series.
