Best Intel CPU for 4K video editing in 2024?

Ive been building my own rigs for like a decade now so I usually feel pretty confident with hardware, but this current gen stuff is just stressing me out. Im currently editing 4K 10-bit footage from my A7S III and my old i7 is just absolutely choking, especially once I start stacking heavy color grades in Resolve. Im definitely looking to stay on the Intel side of things because of QuickSync, which has saved my life way too many times during exports. Im based in the US and looking to spend around 500 to 600 bucks on the chip alone.

Here is where Im kinda stuck:

Needs to handle 4K H.265/HEVC without constant proxying

LGA 1700 platform because I dont really wanna swap my mobo out if I can help it

Stability is my biggest concern after reading all the drama with the 13th and 14th gen degradation issues

Is it even safe to pick up an i9-14900K right now or should I just look at a lower tier i7 and call it a day? Im on a bit of a deadline for a project next month and I really cant afford a blue screen while rendering out a final master. Should I just roll the dice or is there a smarter play for a stable editing workstation?

Coming back to this, I honestly have to disagree with ruling out the newer chips entirely. If you apply the latest microcode updates from your mobo manufacturer and set the power limits properly, the Intel Core i7-14700K 20-Core 5.6GHz is actually the sweet spot for your budget. It runs way cooler than the i9 and gives you those extra E-cores which really shine in Resolve.

Enable the Intel Default Settings in your BIOS immediately

Undervolt slightly to keep thermals under control

Stick to a reputable Z790 board to ensure stable power delivery I have been running one for months with zero stability issues on heavy 4K projects. You save a few hundred bucks compared to the i9, and honestly, you wont notice the difference in timeline playback performance anyway. Just get the settings right and you will be fine.
