im trying to get a gift list together for my parents before the christmas rush starts but they are super bad with tech. my dad usually just buys the first thing he sees and my mom forgets what she already bought so i need something that tracks it. im looking at doing an amazon wishlist since its familiar but i also saw elfster mentioned for its simple interface. a shared google doc is an option too but im worried theyll accidentally delete my links lol. leaning toward amazon but i dont want to lock them into one site. which one of these is actually the most parent-proof for older folks?
Lol I was literally about to post the same thing. Glad someone else brought it up.
I am obsessed with Elfster!! It is absolutely amazing for parents who find tech confusing. It seriously saved our Christmas last year because it is so easy to use.
Before I suggest anything else, are your parents mostly using smartphones or are they still on a desktop? That makes a huge difference for usability. If you want to avoid site-lock and keep costs down, Giftster is a decent, reliable option. It's been around a long time and isn't flashy, which usually works better for older folks. It has a simple claim feature so your mom won't buy duplicates. Another one to look at is GiftHero. It lets you add items from any site, which is great if you're looking for specific parts like a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB NVMe SSD or a SteelSeries Apex 7 TKL Mechanical Keyboard that might be on sale somewhere besides Amazon. This keeps the links direct so your dad won't end up on the wrong page. Definitely avoid the Google Doc idea tho, if they are bad with tech they will 100% mess up the formatting or delete a link accidentally.
