Ive been using Amazon Lists for years to manage the kids stuff but its honestly becoming a nightmare with the extended family now. My MIL keeps buying things and not marking them off or the UI just glitches on her old iPad. Plus I have three kids under ten and keeping their lists separate but accessible in one link is getting messy.

Were hosting 15 people this year and I need to get this sorted by Friday before everyone starts panic shopping. I looked into Elfster but it feels a bit overkill for just a simple family list. Is there a cleaner app that handles multiple kids well and has a dead-simple reserve button for non-techy relatives?

I had the same headache with my folks and we switched to Giftster three years ago. I'm honestly so happy with it. It’s been a total game changer for our big family gatherings. My dad is terrible with tech but he managed to mark off the lego set on my son's list without calling me once. It works well because you just make a group and everyone sees what's left... honestly no complaints so far.

Iirc MyRegistry works well for syncing multiple lists into one link.

  • Simple reserve button
  • Mobile friendly
  • Handles external links well Ive been happy with it for years.

  • You might want to consider the back-end stability of these apps during the holiday rush. If a platform's server response time lags, you'll end up with duplicate purchases anyway... basically a total mess. I would suggest looking for these specific specs to keep costs at zero while maintaining data integrity:
  • Look for Guest Reservation functionality. It removes the friction of account creation for your non-techy relatives who wont want to sign up for things.
  • Check the mobile-responsive UI specifically on older iOS versions. Older iPads often struggle with heavy JavaScript if the site isnt optimized for legacy hardware.
  • Verify that the app allows for direct URL scraping. This helps ensure your family sees the exact item and price data without you having to manually update everything.
