So I just moved into a new place and we're trying to keep our grocery budget under $400. Ive used Splitwise forever for fixed bills but its a huge pain for Walmart runs. My logic was that I could just scan the receipt and an app would do the heavy lifting but the OCR is always terrible with Great Value labels and it messes up the tax split between food and non-food items.
I tried Tab and Tricount but they feel clunky for a big weekly haul. Is there anything that actually syncs with the Walmart app history or at least handles the tax math better? I'm tired of spending 20 minutes on the kitchen floor with a highlighter every Sunday...
I've been splitting bills for years and honestly, the tech is still so disappointing. Most apps like Splitwise and Tab have major issues with those Great Value labels and weird Walmart tax codes. Scanning receipts is basically a lost cause. Nowadays, I just pull up the Walmart app history and use Settle Up to log things manually. It's not as automated as I wanted, but way faster than that kitchen floor math.
