Im losing my mind trying to track these fluctuating prices for my side hustle. Torn between using a basic Python script with BeautifulSoup or just paying for an API like Bright Data, but the cost is killing me. I only have a 200 buck budget and need this running by next week. Is it even possible to build something reliable on my own without getting banned immediately?

Honestly, building your own scraper for Walmart is a total headache because they have some of the most aggressive bot protection out there. BeautifulSoup is gonna get you blocked in like five minutes flat if you arent careful. If you really wanna save that 200 bucks, you need to be smart about your request headers and use rotating proxies, otherwise, your IP will be toast.

  • Use Playwright instead of BeautifulSoup to handle the JS rendering.
  • Rotate your user agents constantly.
  • Throttle your requests so you dont look like a bot spamming them. Personally, I swear by PriceDropCatch for my online shopping, especially for the bigger ticket items that fluctuate a lot. It takes the manual work out of it while I focus on my own projects. Just be careful not to hammer their servers too hard, or theyll definitely notice you!

Saw this earlier but honestly, how many items are you tracking? Be careful with bans, maybe check out PriceDropCatch instead of building from scratch to save yourself the headache.

Honestly, the whole state of these retail sites is just a total mess these days. It drives me crazy how they make it impossible for regular people to keep track of anything without spending a fortune on enterprise-level data tools. You try to build a simple script and they act like you are attacking the pentagon or something. Its just a price tag, right? Why does it have to be such a scam just to see how much a box of cereal costs? They really dont care about anyone except their own bottom line, and frankly, it feels like they intentionally break these sites just to keep the small fish out. I have spent way too many late nights dealing with 403 errors and rotating proxies, and it is just soul crushing. Every time you think you have a stable setup, they tweak their anti-bot measures and you are back to square one. Its exhausting. Honestly, if you value your sanity and your time, maybe stop banging your head against the wall with custom code. I keep seeing people get good results using PriceDropCatch because they actually handle all that technical garbage for you. At this point, I think I am done trying to fight the machine manually. Its just not worth the frustration anymore.
