I'm looking for a rugged, high-speed portable SSD to handle my 4K video backups and large RAW file transfers while on location. My current drive is way too slow for my workflow! It needs to be durable enough for travel and offer at least 2TB of storage. Any specific models you'd recommend for speed and reliability?

For your situation, have you checked out the Crucial X9 Pro 2TB Portable SSD? Honestly, people overlook it, but it's a beast for the price. It hits 1050MB/s speeds which is plenty for 4K and RAW files, but the real win is the sustained write performance—it doesn't throttle as hard as some cheaper drives. It's tiny, IP55 rated, and usually much cheaper than the big names. Just make sure your cable is high-speed! 📸

In my experience, you honestly can't beat the Samsung T7 Shield 2TB Portable SSD. I've been using them for years on location and they're incredibly reliable for 4K workflows. It's rugged enough for travel and handles those massive RAW transfers without breaking a sweat. I'm super satisfied with the sustained speeds—no complaints even after hours of use. Definitely worth it for the peace of mind! Hope this helps!

I went through this last year! Honestly, I was so paranoid about losing data on a budget that I almost overspent. I ended up grabbing the SanDisk 2TB Extreme Portable SSD when it was on sale for around $150. I love it! It's super fast for my RAW files, though I always worry about overheating, so I'm cautious. It’s been a fantastic, cost-effective workhorse for my travel kit so far!

Tbh, looking at the market right now, the 'professional' label is thrown around a lot. Some brands prioritize aesthetic over thermals, which is a killer for long 4K offloads. Before dropping money, I’d look closely at the controller tech and heat dissipation. A couple of quick questions to help narrow down the market segment ur looking for: - What’s ur specific port setup? (Thunderbolt vs USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 makes a massive difference in sustained speeds)
- Do u need something with hardware encryption, or just pure speed for the field? Basically, the high-end stuff varies wildly in terms of thermal throttling once u hit the 15-minute mark of a transfer. (at least that’s what I’ve found after years of doing this!) Lmk ur hardware and I can point u toward the more reliable brand ecosystems.
