Building a rig with a 9900X. What's the best RAM to get for it? Budget is around $300.

Saw this and had to jump in because, tbh, some of the early advice about DDR4 is kinda misleading since the 9900X is an AM5 chip and strictly needs DDR5. I went through this whole rabbit hole when I built my workstation a few months back. Basically, the Zen 5 architecture reallyyy shines when you keep the MCLK and UCLK in a 1:1 ratio, which usually maxes out around 6000MT/s. If you try to go higher, like 7000+, the system usually defaults to 2:1 and your latency actually takes a hit in benchmarks. I ended up grabbing a kit of TeamGroup T-Create Expert Overclocking 10L DDR5 64GB (2x32GB) 6000MHz CL30. It’s super stable and fits way under your $300 budget. Having 64GB is honestly so nice for heavy workloads or just having a million Chrome tabs open while gaming. Just make sure you get a kit with an EXPO profile so you dont have to manually tweak every single sub-timing. It’s basically plug-and-play and works great.

DDR5 6000 CL30 is the sweet spot. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=DDR5+6000+CL30&------123456890?7649-20

Would love to know this too

Hey! I slapped Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHz in my 9900X rig. Zero issues over the last year, runs great. Maybe check those out?

Hey! For a 9900X and $300 budget, diminishing returns hit HARD. Instead of chasing super-fast timings, grab 32GB of DDR4-3200. You'll see amazing performance, and the extra capacity is fantastic for future-proofing. Corsair Vengeance LPX is usually a solid, affordable choice. You'll barely notice the difference compared to pricier kits, and you'll have cash left over! Love it!

9900X loves tight timings! Aim for DDR4-3200 CL14. Crucial Ballistix is often amazing for overclocking in that range.

Before chasing speed, prioritize stability. With a 9900X, avoid RAM overclocking instability that can fry your system. I unfortunately had issues with XPG RAM; not as good as expected. For safe, reliable performance, consider Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200MHz CL16. It stays within JEDEC specs and won't overstress your IMC. Check QVL lists for your specific motherboard to ensure compatibility and avoid potential damage.

Hey! Before diving into RAM, are you comfortable flashing the XMP profile yourself? It's usually straightforward, but be careful! G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200 might be a good starting point. Make sure your motherboard supports the speed and timings. If unsure, a local PC shop can handle it, but DIY'ing saves cash!

For a 9900X around $300, market's flooded. Crucial's been consistently reliable for builds like yours. Check reviews; Corsair's marketing is strong, but Crucial often wins reliability comparisons. Do your research – happy with my Crucial; no issues. Consult build guides, though, to confirm compatibility.
