I'm helping a friend put together a stable gaming rig, and we're stuck on choosing the best GPU around the $1000 price point. We want something that'll handle current and upcoming titles with ease. Any recommendations for a solid performer in this range?

Currently, the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER is around $1000. So best one should be RTX 4080 SUPER.

Building on the earlier suggestion, it seems like most of the guys here are leaning heavily toward the 4080 Super. I've been building rigs for a long time and honestly... this generation has been kinda disappointing. I picked up an MSI Gaming X Slim GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER 16GB for a client build recently and the coil whine was just brutal, not at all what I expected for a thousand bucks. Plus, those new power connectors are a total pain to route cleanly without stressing the wires. Unfortunately, even though the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER is technically the top dog in this price bracket, it feels like we're paying way too much for plastic. If you're okay with skipping ray tracing perks, I actually had a much better experience with the PowerColor Hellhound AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24GB. It felt way more solid and didn't give me any of the driver headaches I was worried about. Just make sure your PSU can handle the spikes if you go that route.
