I recently purchased a Dell XPS 17 laptop and I'm looking for recommendations on a good docking station to use with it. I need something that supports multiple 4K monitors, has plenty of USB ports, and can charge the laptop. Any suggestions from XPS 17 owners? Thanks!

I use Plugable 4K Docking Station Triple Monitor for my XPS 15, it works well. You may have a try.

I highly recommend the Dell WD19TBS Thunderbolt Dock for the XPS 17. It provides up to 130W of power delivery, ensuring your laptop stays charged while connected. The dock also offers a variety of ports, including HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-A, USB-C, Ethernet, and audio jacks. I've been using it with my XPS 17 for a few months now, and it works flawlessly.

Like someone mentioned, sticking with the official Dell stuff makes life way easier. I've been really satisfied with the stability on my end, especially when pushing the hardware hard. I actually disagree with the suggestions for universal docks tho. Performance-wise, they usually can't handle the 130W power requirement of the XPS 17, and you'll just end up with a throttled CPU or a battery that drains while you're working.

  • prioritize the proprietary 130W delivery over standard PD
  • stick to Thunderbolt-native connections for dual 4K
  • avoid any dock using DisplayLink for high-res video If you don't get the power delivery right, you're basically leaving half the laptop's performance on the table. It's just not worth it to go third-party with this specific model...

Ive had my setup for over a year now and honestly im super satisfied with how stable everything is, no complaints at all. > I need something that supports multiple 4K monitors, has plenty of USB ports, and can charge the laptop. Just a couple things to narrow it down tho... are you trying to run those 4K monitors at 60Hz or are you okay with 30Hz? Also, whats your budget like? Some of the higher end options get pretty pricey if you want full 130W charging and high refresh rates at the same time.

The DELL D3100 docking station is great, I have this docking station for several years, still working.
