So I'm trying to figure out which Intel chip I actually need for like high-rank Valorant because my current laptop just lags so much. I was looking at the i9-14900K thing because the number is the biggest so my logic was that it has to be the fastest right? But then I saw some guy on a stream say it's overkill and might just melt my computer if I don't buy a massive cooler. Im so lost. I have about 2000 bucks for the whole build and I want to get it done by next week but I dont want to waste money on something that wont even make a difference for my frame rate. Is the i7 better if I dont know what I am doing?

Saw this today and tbh the i9 is just a space heater for Valorant. If you want to stay under that 2k budget without wasting cash, the Intel Core i7-13700K 16-Core 5.4GHz is a solid middle ground. It hits high frame rates easily and wont thermal throttle as hard as the 14900K. Most people wont even notice the difference in-game. Heres a tip... use a Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE Air Cooler instead of a fancy AIO. It handles the i7 perfectly and costs way less. If you save money there, you can afford a better GPU or a higher refresh monitor. Valorant is way more about your monitor and stable frames than having the most expensive chip on the market. Just keep it simple and focus on the parts that actually change how the game feels.

Honestly the guy on stream is right, the i9 is just gonna bake your case for basically zero real gain in Valorant lol. Go with the Intel Core i7-14700K 20-Core 5.6GHz instead! It is absolutely fantastic for high refresh gaming and way easier to manage than the flagship. Ive been building rigs for a decade and seriously, that i9 is mostly for people with infinite cooling budgets. Youre gonna save a bunch of cash for a better GPU too. Just make sure you get a beefy cooler like the Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360mm AIO to keep things frosty. You will easily hit those crazy frame rates without your PC sounding like a jet engine! Trust me, it is the sweet spot for a 2k budget. Love how snappy this chip feels... it is amazing for competitive stuff.

Stumbled upon this and honestly, agree 100% on ditching the i9. In my experience, the Intel Core i5-14600K 14-Core 5.3GHz is actually plenty for high-rank Val. Over the years, Ive found that games like this care about single-thread speed, not massive core counts.

  • High IPC handles crazy frame rates
  • Much easier for a beginner to cool
  • Zero performance loss in Valorant The DeepCool AK620 Digital Air Cooler is super reliable for this.
