So I'm trying to put together a basic office rig for my cousin who just started a small bookkeeping business here in Bristol. Nothing fancy, just needs to handle like fifty Chrome tabs, some chunky Excel sheets, and Zoom calls without sounding like a jet engine. I've got a budget of about 350-400 quid for the whole tower so every penny counts. I spent a couple hours looking at benchmarks and I keep seeing the Ryzen 5 5600G pop up as the king of budget builds because of the integrated graphics. It seems perfect but then I saw some folks on Reddit saying AM4 is a dead platform and I should go for something like the Ryzen 5 8500G instead since its newer. But then the motherboard and DDR5 ram prices start creeping up and suddenly I'm way over budget. Is the 8000 series actually gonna make a difference for basic office work or am I just wasting money on future proofing a machine that'll just be used for taxes? Kinda stuck between going cheap with the 5600G or trying to squeeze in an 8500G. Which AMD chip is actually the best value for a boring office PC right now?
Stick with the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G 6-Core 12-Thread 3.9GHz. Love it!
