What are the best CPU cooler options for the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X? I'm looking for recommendations on air and liquid coolers that provide efficient cooling without excessive noise.

Building on the earlier suggestion, yeah, a 360mm AIO is total overkill and frankly a waste of cash for this chip. I went that route initially with an NZXT Kraken 240 Liquid Cooler and unfortunately the pump whine was way more annoying than any cooling benefit I got. It just wasnt worth the extra plumbing. Heres what I learned the hard way after messing with my setup:

  • I tried the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 but the mounting system was a total nightmare and performance was not as good as expected for the premium price.
  • Swapped to the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE and tbh it puts those big name brands to shame for like 35 bucks.
  • Dont trust the default fan curves in your BIOS. These chips spike temp quickly so set your fans to stay at a constant low speed until it hits 75C or youll deal with constant noise ramping. Kinda regret spending so much on high-end gear when a simple air tower works better for this build anyway.

^ This. Also, honestly wish I had known that before wasting my money on a high-end setup. I tried going the premium route and it was a total letdown because of the noise issues.

  • Expensive coolers have way more points of failure like leaking or pump death
  • Basic towers usually do the job just fine without the constant pump headache Tbh it sucks paying a premium just to hear a motor humming all day... definitely not worth the extra cash imo.

A Ryzen 9 7900X typically draws around 90 watts at stock settings. A 360mm AIO liquid cooler provides far more cooling capacity than necessary for this processor.
