My mom is visiting me here in Seattle this weekend and shes insisting on buying the groceries but I cannot figure out how to get my list to her. I looked it up and saw you can share via a link but does that actually update in real time? My logic was that it would work like a shared doc where she sees my changes as I make them but I read some people saying it just sends a one-time copy which is super annoying.
Im getting kinda anxious because shes not tech savvy at all and if I have to keep re-sending the link every time I think of something we need its gonna be a disaster. Should I just log her into my account on her phone or is there a better way...
Like someone mentioned, the native list sharing is super glitchy because of how the backend data syncs. Quick question though, are you guys both on iOS or is she on Android? I am satisfied with how basic cloud syncing works for this. Just get any shared list tool from Google and you wont have complaints. I've been using Easy Cart Share to send my grocery lists to my roommate, and it's honestly a lifesaver.
Unfortunately, I had issues with sync latency and caching last month while helping my aunt. Does your mom use a VPN?
Just saw this thread and wanted to jump in since I have dealt with this headache so many times. Quick question though... is she planning to actually pay through the app herself or does she just need the list so she knows what to grab? Knowing that changes my advice. In my experience over the years, I have tried just about every big-box retailer app out there. Here is what I have learned:
Like someone mentioned, the native Walmart sharing is basically a broken promise when it comes to real-time updates. In my experience, these retail apps just dont prioritize the backend sync needed for two people shopping at once. Over the years, I've tried many different setups and honestly, the most reliable way is using a dedicated tool that specializes in data redundancy. I would suggest looking into AnyList Grocery Shopping List or even just Google Keep Notes. They sync instantly across accounts and are way more intuitive for someone who isnt tech-savvy. If you want to stick strictly to the Walmart app tho, your best bet is definitely just logging her into your account directly on her phone. It removes all the sharing bugs entirely. Quick tip: if you go the shared account route, make sure you have your preferred payment methods set as default so she doesnt get confused at the register. Its the most reliable way to avoid the lag issues everyone else is talking about.
I went through this exact same thing last year when my folks came to visit. I tried the whole Walmart list sharing thing and it was a total nightmare because it didnt sync up like I thought it would.
