Hey everyone!
So, I know it's only July, but I'm already thinking about... Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals! Specifically, gaming keyboards. I'm planning a major PC upgrade this fall, and the last piece of the puzzle is a new keyboard. My current one is... let's just say it's seen better days. It's a generic membrane keyboard I picked up years ago, and after countless hours of gaming (mostly Apex Legends, gotta admit!), some of the keys are starting to stick. Super frustrating when you're trying to clutch a win!
I'm aiming to get a really good mechanical keyboard this time around. Something with nice tactile feedback, maybe even customizable RGB. I've been eyeing some of the Corsair and Razer models, but they can be pretty pricey. I'm hoping to snag a deal during the holiday sales. My budget is around $150-$200, but I'm willing to stretch it a bit for the right keyboard. I'm located in Southern California, so any deals that factor in local availability would be awesome.
Has anyone had luck finding killer gaming keyboard deals during Black Friday or Cyber Monday in previous years? Any specific brands or retailers I should keep an eye on? Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! I want to be ready to pounce when the sales start dropping!
🙌
Would love to know this too
Hey! I totally get the keyboard frustration! I used to have a mushy one too, felt like I was fighting the keys! Last year, I snagged a Logitech G502 HERO mouse and a G213 keyboard combo from Best Buy during Black Friday for around $80. It wasn't a high-end mechanical, but a HUGE step up from my old membrane one. The keys feel much better, and it's way more responsive in Apex! I'd say keep an eye on Best Buy's bundles. You might find a solid deal that gets you a good mouse too! I've seen the Corsair K70 on sale too for around $120, so keep your eyes peeled! Hope this helps, and good luck with the upgrade!
Hey there! I totally get the frustration of a mushy keyboard, especially when you're trying to frag in Apex! While everyone's going to throw Corsair and Razer at you (they're popular for a reason), I'd suggest taking a look at some of the slightly less mainstream options that often offer better value for the money. Think of it like choosing car parts – sometimes the name brand isn't always the best bang for your buck.
Specifically, check out Keychron keyboards. They offer a ton of variety, from low-profile to more traditional mechanical keyboards, and often use high-quality components like Gateron switches for a much lower price point than the big brands. I personally picked up a Keychron K2 (version 2) with Gateron Brown switches a couple of years ago for around $120. The tactile feedback is fantastic, the build quality is solid (aluminum frame!), and it's been a rock-solid performer for both gaming and work. I especially like that it works wirelessly or wired.
Another option to consider is Glorious PC Gaming Race (yeah, I know, the name is a bit much!). They're known for their customizable barebones kits, where you buy the frame, switches, and keycaps separately. It's a bit more involved, but it lets you really dial in the feel and sound you want. Be careful though, depending on the switches/keycaps you choose, those can add up in price quickly. A barebones Glorious GMMK 2 can be found for around $80-100, but you'll need to factor in another $50-$100 for switches and keycaps.
My advice? Don't get too caught up in the RGB hype. Focus on the switch type and overall build quality first. Check out some keyboard switch sound tests on YouTube to get a feel for what you might like. Good luck with the hunt, and feel free to ask if you have more specific questions!
Hey! I hear you on the keyboard quest. Instead of chasing the usual Corsair/Razer Black Friday hype, consider Keychron. I grabbed a Keychron K2 (hot-swappable) a few years back for around $80, and it's been a workhorse. While the stock keycaps weren't amazing, spending another $30 on a decent set of PBT caps *totally* transformed it. I've had issues with Razer's longevity in the past, and Keychron's been surprisingly solid for the price. Plus, hot-swappable means you can easily swap out the switches themselves down the line if you want to experiment! Might be worth a look to save some cash!
Hey! Black Friday keyboard hunting, nice! Everyone's mentioned some good brands, but let's talk about long-term use. Over the years, I've noticed Cooler Master keyboards often get overlooked, but they're tanks. I've had a Cooler Master MasterKeys Pro S (tenkeyless) for almost 5 years now. The Cherry MX Brown switches are still clicky and haven't degraded. I picked it up for around $120 back then, and I bet you can find something similar on sale. Plus, their simple design holds up well! Food for thought while you're comparing brands; reliability counts! Let me know if you have questions!
Hey! I get wanting that sweet keyboard upgrade! Everyone's throwing out some good names like Corsair, Razer, and Keychron. But, has anyone considered... used? Hear me out!
I know, I know, used keyboards sound kinda gross. But think about it: you can often find high-end mechanical keyboards for WAY cheaper than new, especially if you're patient and check local listings (Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, etc.). Just make sure you clean it *really* well before you plug it in. Like, isopropyl alcohol and keyboard keycap puller level cleaning! That's the key for safety and reliability.
I actually snagged a Logitech G915 (the low-profile wireless one) for around $120 last year on Facebook. It was practically new! The guy said he just didn't like the feel. New, these things are like $250+, so it was a steal. I took all the keycaps off and gave it a good scrub with some electronics cleaner. No problems at all, works great, no complaints. Just be super careful when you're cleaning around the switches – don't want to damage anything!
Another thing to consider: check for key rollover and response time specs, especially if you're playing fast-paced games like Apex. Some cheaper keyboards (even some new ones) might not keep up. But honestly, for most people, it's not a HUGE deal. Happy hunting, and be sure to inspect it well. Do people know what the return policy is on used keyboards? I'm not totally sure myself.
Anyway, just a different angle to consider! Good luck finding the perfect keyboard. Let me know if you have any questions.
