After trying different storage options, I settled on a Crucial BX500 4TB SSD for my Homebase 3. It handles continuous recording without breaking a sweat, and I never have to worry about running out of space for my data. If you're planning for the future, this capacity is the way to go.

I went with a much cheaper brand because I'm kinda cheap like that and I've been super satisfied so far. Everything works well and I haven't seen any lag or dropped clips. I'm not 100% sure, but I think someone told me the HomeBase 3 hardware actually caps the transfer speeds anyway? If that's the case, buying the most expensive SSD feels like buying a Ferrari to drive through a school zone lol. IIRC you're better off getting a mid-range drive and saving the cash for another camera or something. Just a thought!

I've been using a Samsung 870 QVO 4TB SSD in my Homebase 3, and it's been fantastic. It handles continuous recording without a hitch, and I have plenty of space for future expansion. The large capacity ensures I don't lose any important data.

Any 2.5" SSD or HDD is compatible with the hb3. A 500GB SSD from a reputable brand offers a good balance of capacity and affordability. I've used various drives in different setups: a 2TB Crucial MX500 in one hb3, a 1TB Crucial MX500 in another, and a used 500GB Samsung drive in a third. While larger capacities are available, 500GB often suffices for most users. Repurposing a quality used drive with good SMART data can also be a cost-effective option.

Western Digital Red SA500 SSD work great too. I'm using the 2TB model. They're designed for 24/7 operation and can handle constant writing from security cameras. Just make sure to get the 2.5" SATA version, not the 3.5" ones.

Honestly, I have to disagree with just grabbing any random best-seller. Over the years of setting up surveillance gear, I've learned that constant write cycles from 24/7 security cameras will absolutely kill a consumer-grade drive prematurely. You really want something built for endurance. While the Samsung drives mentioned are fine, I have much better luck with drives designed for NAS or heavy-duty workloads. I've been using a SanDisk Ultra 3D 1TB SSD in my own setup and it has been rock solid for a long time now. If you want even more reliability, look at the Seagate IronWolf 125 1TB SSD. It is specifically engineered for these kinds of continuous write environments. Don't cheap out on the storage that holds your security footage, because it is the worst feeling when you go to check a clip and the drive has failed.
