Best PSU for 9950X3D and RTX 5090?

I'm building a high-performance PC with a Ryzen 9 9950X3D and an RTX 5090. I'm unsure about the best PSU wattage and brand to support this setup. Should I go for a 1300W or 1600W PSU? I want something reliable and efficient, preferably with native ATX 3.0 support. Any recommendations on specific models or brands that are known to work well with this configuration? Thanks!

I suggest you get the 1200W PSU, such as NZXT C1200 Gold ATX 3.1.

For a 9950X3D + 5090 rig, I’d only trust a 1600W ATX 3.1 PSU like the Enermax D.F.X 1650W. Here’s why:

  • Dual native 12V-2x6 connectors: Each delivers 600W cleanly to the 5090 (which can spike over 578W 27). No adapters = no melt risks.

  • Overkill headroom: The 9950X3D hits 220–260W under load 14, and system peaks can touch 900W+. A 1650W unit runs at 50–60% load, staying cool and quiet.

  • Zero ripple issues: Tested stable with dual 5090s 3—perfect for future upgrades.

  • Price? $300–$400, but your $2K GPU deserves it.
Skip 1200W units if you plan on OC’ing or adding more drives/PCIe cards.
