Looking for the best budget AM5 motherboard for gaming.

I’m finally planning to make the jump to the AM5 platform after years of sticking with my trusty AM4 setup. I’ve already decided on a Ryzen 5 7600 for the build, but man, the motherboard prices are really catching me off guard! Since I'm on a tighter budget, I don't want to overspend on an X670 board full of features I’ll honestly never use, but I also don't want to buy a 'bargain' board that’s going to throttle my performance or have terrible thermal issues.

I’ve been doing some research, and I’m specifically looking for a solid B650 board that stays under the $150 mark. My main priorities are decent VRM cooling during long gaming sessions and at least two M.2 slots for my NVMe drives. I’m a bit torn between options like the ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2, which seems like a value king, and the MSI PRO B650M-A WiFi, but I’ve heard mixed things about long boot times on some of these entry-level AM5 models. Is PCIe 5.0 even worth worrying about at this price point, or should I just stick to Gen 4 for now?

I’m really trying to maximize every dollar so I can put more toward a better GPU. For those of you who have already moved to AM5, which budget B650 motherboard currently offers the best balance between VRM quality and BIOS stability for a mid-range gaming rig?

Here's my take:
- ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2: SO cheap.
- MSI PRO B650M-A WiFi: Better features.
- Gigabyte B650M DS3H: Good VRMs.
Best choice is ASRock, it works well! gl

Dude, i feel u on the motherboard sticker shock. I switched from my old B450 setup last year and literally spent weeks looking at spreadsheets cuz everything was so pricey lol. I actually started with a super expensive X670 board thinking I needed all those lanes, but honestly? It was such a waste for my Ryzen 5. I ended up returning it for a solid budget B650 and used the extra $100 to bump my GPU up a tier, which made way more of a difference in my games anyway. Seconding the recommendation above for sure. The ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 is basically the value king right now, usually sitting around $110-$120. Even tho it looks kinda plain, the VRMs are actually lowkey incredible for the price and wont break a sweat with a 7600. Here are a few technical things to think about for ur budget: 1. **Storage flexibility:** If u want more room to grow, the ASRock B650M Pro RS WiFi is usually under $150 and gives u three M.2 slots. Having that third slot is a huge plus if u find a deal on a 2TB drive later.
2. **Boot times:** Yeah, it was a mess at launch. But basically every brand has fixed this with BIOS updates. Just look for the 'Memory Context Restore' setting in the BIOS—it makes a massive difference, trust me. My boot times dropped by like 20 seconds.
3. **PCIe 5.0:** Seriously, dont stress about this. By the time it actually matters for gaming, ur gonna be looking at a whole new build anyway. Gen 4 is plenty for a mid-range card. Lesson learned for me was: dont overbuy the mobo. If it has decent cooling and the slots u need, ur good to go. Saving that cash for the GPU is definitely the play. Plus, the MSI PRO B650M-A WiFi is also a solid bet if u need the extra USB ports for like $145. gl with the jump to AM5!
