Hey everyone! I’ve been grinding Counter-Strike 2 lately, but I’m still stuck on an old 60Hz office monitor, and the ghosting is making it impossible to hold angles or hit flick shots. I’m finally ready to upgrade to a 144Hz setup to get that competitive edge, but I’m on a pretty tight budget. Since CS2 is so focused on reaction time, I’m looking for a panel with minimal input lag and a fast 1ms response time. I'm torn between getting a budget IPS for better colors or a TN panel for pure speed. Does anyone have a specific model under $200 that’s reliable and doesn't have major motion blur issues?

I went through this last year when I was trying to climb out of Silver in CS. Honestly, switching from a 60Hz office brick to a proper 144Hz panel is pretty much night and day. But be careful cuz not all "1ms" monitors are actually the same... it's mostly marketing talk. When I was looking, I compared three main types. First, there's the old-school TN panels like the BenQ ZOWIE XL2411K. It's basically the gold standard for pure speed and has that DyAc tech to stop motion blur, which is sick for flick shots. But the colors... man, they look kinda washed out and gray tbh. Then you have the budget IPS options like the AOC 24G2SP. I ended up going this route because the colors are sooo much better for daily use, and modern "Fast IPS" tech is actually quick enough now that you wont notice much ghosting compared to TN. Another solid one I looked at was the ASUS TUF Gaming VG249Q1A. It's super reliable and usually sits way under that $200 limit. Just a heads up though, I'd stay away from budget VA panels. I tried one briefly and the "black smearing" made tracking players in dark corners like on Ancient a total nightmare. If you want the competitive edge, stick to Fast IPS or TN. It definately makes the game feel smoother, almost like youre playing a different game entirely. good luck with the grind!

yo, i feel u on the 60hz struggle... honestly, switching to 144hz is literally gonna change ur life in CS2. I've been gaming for like 15 years now and moving away from those old office monitors was the best thing I ever did, tho im still kinda new to all the specific panel tech stuff tbh. For your situation, I would suggest these models that I've been looking at lately: - AOC 24G2SP 23.8" Frameless Gaming Monitor - This is basically the gold standard for budget builds. It's an IPS panel so the colors arent washed out like a TN, but it handles motion really well. I think it's usually around $150 or so?
- ASUS TUF Gaming VG249Q1A 23.8” Gaming Monitor - Seriously a tank. It's actually 165Hz and has that ELMB tech to help with the blur you're worried about. - ViewSonic OMNI VX2428 24 Inch 1080p 165Hz Gaming Monitor - My buddy uses this one and says it's solid for the price, but be careful cuz the stand is a little wobbly iirc. Since you're torn on IPS vs TN... honestly, modern budget IPS panels have gotten so fast that most people dont really need TN anymore. You get way better colors and the response times are lowkey close enough now. Just make sure to check reviews for "ghosting" specifically on whatever u buy. I guess you might want to consider checking 3 or 4 different YouTube reviews first just to be safe? anyway, gl with the grind! 👍

Adding my two cents here because honestly, the hunt for a decent budget panel has become a total joke lately. I remember thinking Id finally found the perfect screen for my CS setup last year, but unfortunately it was just another letdown with massive ghosting issues that made holding long A on Dust 2 a complete nightmare. Its such a scam how these big brands like Samsung or LG charge a premium but then the actual quality control is just... non-existent. Drives me crazy that we have to deal with:

  • Marketing lies about 1ms response times
  • Panels that look like they have grease smeared on them
  • Terrible black levels that make it impossible to see anything in shadows Most of these budget options are just recycled office tech with a gamer sticker slapped on top. Its honestly ridiculous how hard it is to get a straight answer from these companies. Quick question tho, what kind of lighting are you working with in your room? Like, do you have a window right behind you or is it mostly dark? Knowing that makes a huge difference before I tell you which brands to avoid like the plague.

Late to the thread, but honestly, I kinda disagree with the idea that you HAVE to stick to the big-name gaming brands to get a decent competitive experience. I've been following the monitor market for years, and lately it feels like your paying a 'gamer tax' just for a fancy stand and some red accents. I think people forget that companies like LG or Samsung actually make the panels that everyone else buys and puts in their own shells. Not sure but IIRC, a lot of these budget 144Hz screens are basically using the same few panels from manufacturers like AUO or Innolux anyway. I've heard some talk that you can save a ton by looking at brands that don't spend millions on esports sponsorships. Pretty sure the actual performance gap in input lag between a 'generic' brand and a 'pro' brand is almost zero these days if the panel revision is the same. It's SO easy to get caught up in the marketing hype, but if you do some deep digging into the hardware IDs on tech forums, you might find a hidden gem for way cheaper.
