im trying to build my first pc and i have about $1200 saved up but im honestly so lost. i saw the intel i5 and i7 and i9 and i thought higher numbers meant better gaming? but then i saw a video saying i9 is overkill for most people so i was thinking maybe an i5 is enough.

my logic was just get the newest one but then i saw things like 13400 and 14600k and i have no idea what the letters at the end even mean or if the price jump is worth it. i just want to play games like fortnite and maybe some newer stuff without it lagging. what is the go-to middle one that people usually get? sorry if this is a dumb question...

Building on the earlier suggestion, definitely be careful with those K chips because they run pretty hot. You might want to consider the Intel Core i5-13500 2.5 GHz 14-Core instead. It stays way cooler and uses less power, which is safer for a first build tbh. Plus the money you save can go toward a better graphics card. Just make sure to check your case airflow... dont want things overheating.

  • Buy the Intel Core i5-13600K 3.5 GHz 14-Core.
  • Im really satisfied because K means higher speeds. It works well since games prioritize that speed over the extra cores in an i9.

In my experience, stability is key for beginners:

  • Intel Core i5-13400 2.5 GHz 10-Core: Reliable, low heat.
  • Intel Core i5-14600K 3.5 GHz 14-Core: Fast but requires high-end cooling to avoid issues.
