Just found this thread and honestly, i've been through so many budget TVs over the last decade - i've learned the hard way that reliability is way more important than a few extra inches of screen. When you're looking under $300, basically every brand is cutting corners somewhere to hit that price point. I remember picking up a Hisense A6 Series a couple years back thinking I got a steal, but the panel lottery is real!!! The main thing i've noticed is that the internal processors in these cheaper units struggle after a few firmware updates. My experience has been that the "smart" part of the TV starts lagging like crazy after about 12 months. Now, I always look for a model with a decent warranty or at least a reputation for not having backlight bleed issues right out of the box. Reliability-wise, it’s often safer to go with a slightly smaller screen from a brand that has better quality control - well actually, just make sure you test the panel for 'dirty screen effect' as soon as you get it home. If the whites look blotchy, send it back immediately because those issues only get worse over time!

Honestly, I have been diving deep into the spec sheets for these budget brands lately and it is really confusing. Like, I am still learning how all this works, but I noticed that at the sub-300 level, the big name brands like Samsung or LG often sell basically stripped-down versions compared to the smaller brands. My mistake was thinking a big name meant better quality, but after looking at the data, their brightness levels at this price point are often REALLY low. Also, something I found in my research is how much the software varies. Some brands use Fire TV or Roku built-in, while others have their own OS that gets super laggy after a few months. It seems like a huge gamble. I almost bought a unit just because it was a name I recognized, but then I realized the refresh rate was effectively much lower than advertised. It is like they all use different marketing terms to hide the same cheap parts, so you really have to be CAREFUL with those labels.
