Hey everyone! I’m finally pulling the trigger on an RTX 4080 Super for my new build, but I'm stuck on picking the right power supply. I know 850W is the sweet spot, but I really want something with native ATX 3.0 support so I don't have to mess with those bulky 12VHPWR adapters. Reliability is huge for me, and I’d prefer a unit that stays relatively quiet even under heavy load. I've been looking at brands like Corsair and Seasonic, but there are so many models it's getting a bit overwhelming. Does anyone have a specific 850W PSU they'd recommend that is rock-solid and future-proof?
Quick question—what's your total budget? Before I give advice, you gotta consider that modern GPUs have massive power spikes. This matters because poor safety protections will literally crash your system if they aren't robust.
I'd look at:
- Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 850W 80+ Gold Full Modular Power Supply
It's usually $110 and has been rock-solid in my experience. It’s way cheaper than Seasonic but just as SAFE. gl!
For your situation, I suggest the Corsair RM850e (2023) Fully Modular Low-Noise ATX Power Supply. Im still kinda new but I dont like messy adapters and it only cost me $120. It stays really quiet too! Another solid choice is the Seasonic FOCUS GX-850 (2023) 850W 80+ Gold ATX 3.0 because Seasonics legendary reliability is basically unbeatable, right? Both have that native 12VHPWR cable you need for the 4080 Super.
Seconding the recommendation above! Those are great units, but tbh, I've seen the MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5 850W 80+ Gold Fully Modular Power Supply go for like $100-110 lately and it's a steal. Basically has everything u need—native 12VHPWR and Gold rating. In my experience, its just as reliable for a better price. Definitately look for sales on that one before buying... gl!
