Hey everyone! I’m finally in the home stretch of putting together my dream build. I just managed to snag an RTX 4080 Super (went with the ASUS TUF OC version) and I’m beyond excited to get it up and running. However, I’ve hit a bit of a roadblock when it comes to the power supply and could really use some expert eyes on this.

I’ve been using an old 650W unit for years, which clearly isn't going to cut it for this beast. After doing some research and checking various power calculators, 850W seems to be the consensus for the 'sweet spot'—it offers enough headroom for those transient power spikes without being total overkill. But man, the market is absolutely flooded right now, and I’m honestly a bit overwhelmed by the options.

My biggest concern is the new 16-pin 12VHPWR connector. I really want to avoid using those bulky, messy 3-into-1 adapters that come in the GPU box if I can help it. I'm looking for a native ATX 3.0 (or even 3.1) compliant PSU that comes with a high-quality dedicated cable for the GPU to keep the build looking clean and, more importantly, to ensure a secure connection.

Noise is another huge factor for me. My PC sits right on my desk, so I’d love something with a reliable zero-RPM fan mode or at least a very quiet fan profile under load. I’ve been looking at the Corsair RM850x Shift and the Seasonic Vertex GX-850, but I’ve heard some chatter about coil whine on newer units, which makes me a bit nervous. I’ve also seen the Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 mentioned a lot for its value, but I've never used their units before.

I’m aiming for a budget of around $130–$170, but I’m willing to stretch a bit for better peace of mind. I plan on keeping this build for at least 5 years, so reliability is everything to me. For those of you already running a 4080 Super or a similar 40-series card, what 850W unit are you using, and have you run into any cable or noise issues?

Seconding the recommendation above! Tip: Check out the Montech TITAN GOLD 850W 80+ Gold Full Modular Power Supply. It's a top-tier unit often around $110. In my experience, it's very reliable, tho always be cautious with that 12VHPWR cable—make sure it's *fully* clicked in to avoid any melting issues. Solid value for ur 4080 Super if u wanna save cash! gl!

In my experience, you might want to consider the MSI MPG A850G PCIE5 850W 80+ Gold Full Modular Power Supply. I swapped to it for my own 4080 build and its been rock solid. Usually hits ur budget around $130. It has native 12VHPWR and the Zero Fan mode is actually silent. Just be careful and make sure you're cables are clicked in deep tho!! No coil whine issues so far... basically a perfect pick.

Check out the Cultists Network PSU Tier List, it's basically the bible for this stuff. Honestly, I had issues with loud fans on other units, which was so annoying... I eventually tried the Be Quiet! Pure Power 12 M 850W 80+ Gold ATX 3.1. It’s way quieter than the Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 850W imo and fits ur budget. Plus, the native cable feels more secure. gl!

Go with Seasonic, you can't go wrong. They're the safest bet for long-term reliability. Just make sure it's an ATX 3.0 unit... you don't wanna risk any cable drama with that 4080.

Saved for later, ty!
