I'm building a small form-factor PC with AMD Ryzen 5 9600X. Which Mini-ITX motherboards offer the best balance of features and performance despite their size constraints? Are there any compromises I should be aware of when choosing a Mini-ITX motherboard? Which models provide the best connectivity and expansion options in a compact form factor?

I spent way too long looking for a board that wouldnt break the bank for my last build. For the 9600X, you really dont need to go overboard on the high-end chipsets. I went with the ASRock B650I Lightning WiFi and it has been super solid for my needs. I personally prefer it because it has a decent VRM setup for the price and doesnt have those annoying tiny fans that some high-end ITX boards use which eventually start whining. Honestly, the biggest thing for me was having a BIOS flashback button. I once got stuck with a board that wouldnt boot because the BIOS was out of date, and I didnt have an older CPU to fix it... total nightmare. If you are looking for more features, the Gigabyte B650I AORUS ULTRA is a good alternative, tho it is usually pricier. Just keep an eye on the height of the M.2 heatsinks. Some of them are huge and might bump into your CPU cooler. The ASRock is pretty low profile which makes it a safe bet for most compact cases.

Been tinkering with ITX builds for years and honestly, for a 9600X, you want something that wont give you thermal headaches down the line. I am super satisfied with the ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-I GAMING WIFI for pure reliability.
- Build quality is rock solid and the VRMs barely break a sweat with a 6-core chip.
- You get PCIe 5.0 which is nice for longevity even if we dont strictly need it yet.
- The internal layout is actually sensible, unlike some other boards that cram things in weird spots. If you want more storage, the Gigabyte B650I AORUS ULTRA works well too because of those triple M.2 slots. I have used it in a few builds and zero complaints so far. Just a heads up that the fan headers can be a bit of a reach in tiny cases tho...

For a Ryzen 5 9600X Mini-ITX build, consider A620 boards. They offer excellent value for the 9000 series.

Whatever board you choose, pay attention to M.2 slot placement and RAM clearance with your cooler choice. I had to return my first board because the M.2 heatsink interfered with my low-profile cooler. Also consider whether you need WiFi or can use ethernet - non-WiFi boards are usually cheaper and one less thing to potentially fail.
