Best gaming laptop for competitive esports under $1200?

I've been looking at getting a new rig mostly for CS2 and Valorant since my old desktop finally kicked the bucket last week and I need something portable for college anyway. My budget is pretty firm at $1200 because that's literally all I saved up from my summer job at the bookstore. So I was thinking about the Acer Nitro 5 because everyone says it's the value king but then I saw some reviews saying the screen response time is actually kind of trash for competitive stuff which is a huge dealbreaker for me. My logic was that I just need a high refresh rate like 144hz or 165hz but apparently not all 144hz screens are built the same? Then I found the Lenovo Legion 5 with a 3070ti for like $1150 on sale but people keep talking about TGP and wattage and I'm honestly so lost now. Is a lower tier GPU with higher wattage better than a 4060 with low power? I mostly just want to hit a stable 240+ fps without the laptop sounding like a jet engine or melting through my desk. Should I wait for more 40-series sales or is there something I'm totally missing in this price range...

Through personal testing, I eventually learned that a previous-generation chip running at its maximum power limit can easily outperform a newer, more expensive chip that is being power-throttled to keep heat down. It was a huge eye-opener! When I finally upgraded to a machine with a high TGP and a verified low-latency screen, my performance in tactical shooters skyrocketed immediately. It felt fantastic to finally play the game as intended. Seriously, focusing on the thermal design and the actual panel response times instead of just the marketing numbers saved my setup. You are totally on the right track by questioning those specifics tho! It is going to be so amazing once you get that stable high-framerate experience locked in!
