building my first real high-end rig in London next month with a £3000 budget and I'm stuck on the CPU. i saw benchmarks for the i9-14900K but then people say the i7-14700K is basically the same for just gaming without the insane heat. which Intel chip is actually the best pick for a top tier build?

Honestly, i went through this exact same dilemma when i was building my setup!! The Intel Core i9-14900K 24-Core 6.0GHz is an absolute beast on paper but ngl it gets crazy hot. Like, you basically need a massive 360mm AIO just to keep it from thermal throttling during heavy sessions. I ended up using the Intel Core i7-14700K 20-Core 5.6GHz for my latest build and it is fantastic for gaming. You literally wont notice the difference in 4K or even 1440p gaming because that i7 is already so incredibly fast. Plus you save a good chunk of cash for a better GPU or more storage. If you really want that high-end feel without the headache of cooling a mini sun, the i7 is 100% the way to go! Youre gonna love the performance!

Honestly, the Intel Core i7-14700K 20-Core 5.6GHz is the real winner for a high-end build right now. It has those extra E-cores now, so it handles background apps and multitasking like a dream without the insane power draw of the top-end chips. You could also look at the Intel Core i9-13900K 24-Core 5.8GHz if you find a good deal in London. It is basically the same silicon as the 14th gen flagship but often much cheaper. I wouldnt touch the Intel Core i9-14900KS 24-Core 6.2GHz unless you really want to fight with cooling issues every day. The i7 is plenty for top-tier gaming imo.
