I'm building a new rig for 4K editing in Premiere Pro. My current setup lags during playback, especially with H.265 files.

I'm debating between the i7-14700K and the i9-14900K. Does the i9's extra power justify the cost for timeline smoothness, or is QuickSync on the i7 enough? Which Intel chip provides the best 4K editing experience right now?

Yo! Stumbled upon this and honestly, I would suggest the Intel Core i7-14700K. Here is why:

  • Intel Core i9-14900K: Tons of power but it gets HOT. Like, safety-concern hot... definitely needs a massive AIO to not throttle.
  • Intel Core i7-14700K: Way more reliable and the QuickSync is identical to the i9 for H.265. Basically, the i7 is the safest bet for long-term stability without losing much speed. Good luck!

Story time: I tried the Intel Core i9-14900K but it ran too hot for me.

I'd go with the Intel Core i7-14700K. It's pretty much the sweet spot for 4K editing. QuickSync handles H.265 files like a champ anyway. Unfortunately, the i9 just runs way too hot for minimal gains in Premiere... save that extra cash for better cooling or more RAM tbh.
