What is the best Intel CPU for 4K gaming in 2024?

I'm finally putting together a high-end build for 4K gaming and I'm leaning heavily towards Intel for this one. I’ve heard that at 4K resolution, the GPU does most of the heavy lifting, but I want to make sure I don’t bottleneck my RTX 4090. I'm currently torn between the i7-14700K and the i9-14900K. I’m a bit worried about the power draw and heat on the i9, and I'm curious if the performance gain is even noticeable when gaming at such high settings. I want something future-proof for 2024's biggest releases without overspending on unnecessary specs. Is the i9 overkill for a 4K setup, or is it the way to go?

So, I've been building high-end rigs for like 15 years now and honestly, the whole 'i9 for gaming' thing is a bit of a trap lately. Basically, when youre pushing 4K resolution, your NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 is doing like 95% of the work. The CPU just needs to keep up with the data flow, and at that resolution, the gap between high-end chips literally vanishes because you become GPU-bound. In my experience, I've tried many setups, and I actually moved from an i9 down to the Intel Core i7-14700K for my personal rig. Why?? Because the Intel Core i9-14900K is a total furnace. Unless you have a massive custom loop or a top-tier Corsair iCUE H150i Elite LCD XT Liquid CPU Cooler, youre gonna be thermal throttling constantly. The performance gain at 4K is basically margin of error—we're talking maybe 1 or 2 fps?? Definitely not worth the extra $150 and the massive power draw. For your situation, I would suggest sticking with the Intel Core i7-14700K. It has more than enough cores (20 of them!!) to handle any 2024 release like Cyberpunk 2077 without breaking a sweat. Plus, it runs way cooler, which means your fans wont sound like a jet engine while youre trying to enjoy the game. Ngl, the i9 is just overkill for a gaming-first build unless you’re also doing heavy 8K video rendering. Save that cash and maybe put it toward more storage or some faster G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32GB DDR5-6400 RAM. You'll be way happier with the stability and noise levels... gl with the build!!

Just saw this, grab the Intel Core i7-14700K. Its more practical because:
- Better thermals
- Same 4K FPS The Intel Core i9-14900K is WAY too hot and overkill for ur 4090 build tbh

I'm pretty new to high-end builds myself - just did my first one last month - but honestly, if you're building this yourself, are you looking for a 'plug and play' experience or are you okay with spending hours in the BIOS tuning stuff?? I've been reading that those really high-end chips can be super finicky for DIY beginners unless you really know what you're doing with the settings. Anyway, what's your total budget for the cooling setup? Because I realized too late that the case and airflow make a massive difference if you go with the bigger CPU. I'm leaning towards the i7 for my next project just to keep it simple, but yeah... are you planning on doing any video editing on the side or is this strictly for 4K gaming?

Sooo, late to the party but honestly, play it safe and grab the Intel Core i7-14700K Processor. Unfortunately, I've had issues with 14th gen i9 stability and it's kinda a nightmare to keep cool. At 4K, the i9 is just a reliability risk. - Stick with the i7
- Get a Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black Seriously, save ur sanity and avoid those voltage headaches. gl!

Same setup here, love it
