Are there any wishlist apps that actually sync live with Amazon and Target? Im trying to set up my daughters birthday list and its a mess. I saw GiftHero and Thing To Get but people say they dont actually sync the stock levels in real time which is basically pointless for me. I just need one spot for my family to look at...

TL;DR: No app is 100 percent perfect for live stock syncing because Amazon and Target keep their systems locked down. I would suggest MyRegistry or Elfster, but keep your expectations realistic. I have spent a lot of time testing these for family events and you really have to be careful with live claims. MyRegistry is probably the most robust option I have found. The pro is that it actually syncs with your Target registry directly, but a major con is that the Amazon integration can be a bit glitchy if your privacy settings arent exactly right. It is a very methodical tool, but it still requires manual oversight. Elfster is the other one I might want to consider for you. Its very user-friendly for grandparents, which is a big plus. On the downside, it definitely doesnt update stock levels in real time. I have seen items show as available when they were long gone. If you use it, make sure to tell your family to buy quickly once they decide. It is safer to assume the stock data is a few hours old at any given time. Honestly, most of these apps are just glorified link aggregators, so dont trust them blindly. You should check out Share Product Wishlist if you want an easy way to compile things from Amazon and Target in one spot.

Re: "TL;DR: No app is 100 percent perfect for..." - unfortunately, the previous person is right and it is a huge letdown for parents. I have had issues with lists where things stayed "in stock" on the app but were long gone on the store site. It is really not as good as expected. The technical side is a mess for a few reasons:

  • Direct sync needs an API, but big stores wont share that data freely.
  • Most apps use scraping, which breaks whenever a store updates its website layout.
  • Security is a worry when linking accounts to random third-party tools. I have tried Giftster and it is decent for organization, but you still have to manually verify things. Another one is Wishlist.com. Nothing replaces clicking the link yourself, tbh. It is not ideal, but it beats having family try to buy sold-out items. You'll get it figured out tho!
