I've been trying to save some videos from Reddit but keep running into quality issues. Most of the downloaders I've found online only give me low-resolution versions, even when the original post clearly shows HD video. I've tried a few browser extensions and websites, but they seem to compress everything or miss the audio entirely. Does anyone know reliable methods or tools that can grab Reddit videos in their original quality? I'm particularly interested in downloading from r/videos and similar subreddits where people post high-quality content. Any recommendations for desktop software or trustworthy online tools would be greatly appreciated!

So I've been trying to archive high-quality clips for months now and the no-sound issue is honestly the BIGGEST headache. It happens because Reddit separates the audio and video streams for anything over 720p... which I only learned after a lot of digging. I finally started using yt-dlp on my desktop. It’s a command-line tool which is a bit scary if you’re a beginner like me, but it’s the only thing that grabs the actual raw bitrate without compression. Just point it at the URL and it merges the files automatically. Does anyone else find the terminal stuff confusing though? I'm still trying to figure out the best settings for maximum quality...

ugh i have the exact same problem and its driving me crazy. ive been trying to find a solid way to grab hd clips for like 4 months now and everything i try either kills the quality or loses the audio entirely... honestly so frustrating when you just want to save a cool video in its original resolution and nothing seems to work properly.

Like someone mentioned, that whole split audio and video thing is the real culprit here. Its super annoying when you just want a quick clip but tbh if you want the best performance for literally zero dollars, yt-dlp is the king. I know it was said to be a bit scary to use tho, so I have been pretty happy using Stacher Video Downloader. Its basically a free visual wrapper for yt-dlp so you dont have to type commands like a hacker lol. The performance is basically perfect and it grabs the full HD bitrate every time without any compression. Its totally free so you save money while getting the best quality possible. No complaints from me so far, it just works perfectly.
